Business hours & shopping

Shops are open between 10.00 and 18.00 hrs on weekdays and from 10.00 to 15.00 hrs on Saturdays. Shops in the city centre have extended opening hours, some even on Sundays between 12.00 and 16.00 hrs.

Climate and clothing

The climate in Gothenburg is extremely varied and every season has its particular charm. Average temperature in August varies between +11° and +21° C.


Hotel check-in time is 15.00 hrs or later.  Check-out time is usually 12.00.

Credit cards

Commonly accepted credit cards in hotels, restaurants and shops are american express, Diners Club, Visa, Master card and Eurocard. Restaurants and shops generally display signs indicating what cards they accept. The registration desk accepts all these cards.


The currency in Sweden is the Swedish krona, SEK. A currency calculation can be found online here.

Insurance and liability

Neither the conference organisers nor the conference secretariat accept any liability for personal injuries sustained, or for loss or damage to property belonging to conference participants, either during or as a result of the conference. It Is strongly recommended that you purchase an insurance policy of your choice as you register for the conference and book your travel. The insurance should be purchased in advance.


The official language in Sweden is Swedish. People will generally speak and understand English. The official language of the conference is English. 

Local transportation

There are buses, trams and even ferries as part of the local transportation system. The best option is to buy a  tourist card for 1 day (24 hrs) for 70 SEK or a 3 days (72 hrs) for 140 SEK. The tickets are purchased either in 7 - Eleven or Pressbyrån kiosks located in several places all over town (for instance in the Central Railway Station). There is a 7- Eleven across the street from the venue at the Department of Education.

Smoking policy

The conference venue and the evening venues are all non smoking. Smoking is banned in public places in Sweden, on public transport, in stores, restaurants and most pubs. Hotels offer special rooms for smokers. Please indicate your request on the registration form, when you make your hotel reservation.

Time zone

Sweden is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).


Participants needing a visa for entry to Sweden are strongly advised to apply in their home country well in advance. If in doubt, information can be obtained from your nearest Swedish embassy or consulate or from your travel agency.
